In case you missed it, I'm alluding to the fact that Hamhuis is getting old and that kinda trade is ridiculous. Oilers core arrives in its prime and Hamhuis is taking the bus to the arena and complaining to his teammates about those damn kids on his lawn. Absurd trade.

Edler is worth more than a 16-30 pick, a resigned hammer to EDM is worth a 16-30 pick (make it lottery protected) and if he doesn't resign 2nd+3rd at minimum. Our division is weak and a defenseman that is an upgrade on 4 of their Dmen and equal to one of the dmen could help them get in there. I would even just make it conditional in general, 2nd+3rd and if EDM makes playoffs it becomes a 1st. Rentals of Hammers ilk get at least that much.

As a wings fan, I take Edler for a 1st in a heartbeat. However, Detroit may need to add a prospect. Not sure which position Van needs depth at.
