*SJ retains 3 million of Meier's expiring contract.


Reports are that SJ wants a Top Prospect, plus to B Prospects and a 1st Rounder for Meier.
This proposal more than fits that requirement.

IMO I don't think this gets Meier wth 50% of his contract retained. Woll is gonna be needed for the Leafs down the stretch since our goalies are the most injury prone in the league. Robertson is done for the season so SJ would really have had liked what they seen in Robertson's limited amount of games to want him for next year. Anderson is basically a toss in at this point. He'd likely get playing time in SJ but he is still just a bottom 6 player in the NHL. Meier would be a great pickup, but I think the Leafs would be better off looking at improving the defense or looking at a winger who won't cost them as much to acquire.

I would love to know what Defenceman you would be trading for, and who on Toronto goes?
Rielly, Brodie and Holl have NTC in there contracts and won't be waiving that imo, so whats left to trade?
I wouldn't trade Giordano, Sandin or Liljegren and Timmons is Holl's replacement next season, only one left is Jordie Benn which has no value in a trade.
Leafs need a Top 6 LWinger have for years now, and adding a player like Meier makes all the lines better as Jarnkrok goes to the bottom 6.

For sharks to retain 50% it will cost a lot more than that!

I don't think Toronto has the assets that would intice the Sharks to do the trade. it might be what the Sharks are asking for, but I'm sure other teams could offer the same (picks prospects and roster players or what ever they are asking) but higher quality players.

- Robertson is not a top prospect.

- It has been reported over and over again that the leafs are low in trade capital and just don’t have the high-end prospects it will take to close a major deal.

- The eventual return for Meier will dwarf this proposal.

Holl's is modified so he's moveable. Meier would be great, but I just don't think we have the pieces to acquire him where we could fit his cap hit. As for dmen I'd say Schenn would be perfect in a bottom pairing roll with how he's played this year.
