Someone to fill Emelin's shoes on defense.

1.) You don't send a conditional pick for re-signing for a player that atleast has a year left on his contract. Ever.
2.) Iginla will still have 2 years to his contract, parenteau will be sign next year too and cole will never comeback to mtl
3.) The conditional is if Cole signs with MTL next year. I wouldn't think either MTL or Cole would pursue those options though, but just for insurance reasons. I'm only interested in him for the remainder of this season and the playoffs.
I realize Iginla is signed for the next two seasons and I'd be happy with that. Better than what we currently have and is still playing well, I think he has two or more years left. Parenteau still has one year on his deal, and his recent history hasn't looked great, not that he's done by any means. Iginla just presents a scoring, physical, and consistency upgrade.
And again I don't want to sign Cole next year. We would be rid of Parenteau's $4.0M contract that is currently owed to him.
4.) Habs are stuck with Parenteau till his contract expires.

3 players that could seriously aid our team this year and 2 of them in the future.
With Seguin on the IR and potentially for the next 3 weeks or so and Dallas on the outside looking in on the playoffs they may look to trade E. Cole. UFA 2015, cap hit $4.5M.
Colorado is in the same position, picking up Iginla to play RW on the 1st or 2nd line would solidify the top 6. UFA 2017, cap hit $5.333M.
Philadelphia, according to speculation, has been looking to trade a defenseman. I've read Luke Schenn, not often, as potential trade bait. Little to no offensive ability but we have lots of that on the back end. I am partial to Canadians, he's a RH shot and could completely replace Emelin and IMO would do a better job. UFA 2016, cap hit $3.6M.
Parenteau and Emelin would need to go, not sure who else would need to go.
Pacioretty-Desharnais-Gallagher
Galchenyuk-Plekanec-Iginla
Cole-Eller-DSP
Prust-DLR-Weise
Bournival, Malhotra
Markov-Subban
Beaulieu-Schenn
Tinordi-Gilbert
Weaver

schenn can't even crack the horrible philly defense. no team would be looking to tade for a 3,6 million dollar 7th defenseman.
2.) If Montreal is window shopping the Flyer Mall, it would be for Simmonds or Couturier (doubt Flyers let Couturier go though).

MTL
Cole - $4.5M, 2015 UFA
DAL
Parenteau - $4.0M, 2016 UFA
Conditional 3rd or whatever if Cole resigns with Montreal.
1.) 26 Feb 2015 19:49:08
cole didn't leave on the best terms. doubt MTL would want him back.
2.) Habs current GM/coach got rid of Cole when they came to cleanup Gainey/Gauthier mess to have a Cup contender in just 3 years . no wy he's bringing the sullen over the hill Cole back
3.) Doubt Cole would want to go back to Montreal.
4.) This organization is different than the one that signed him. The team dynamic too.
Even if Bergevin traded him it was for cap relief and to rid the team of his contract term.
I haven't seen anything that says he has a NMC or NTC (he may, I just haven't seen it) so it wouldn't be up to him.
Bringing in a player who plays hard/gritty, with good size who can score would look great on this team and he would be gone along with his and parenteau's contract.

Forget about higgins, we can do so much better
I would have liked Perron coming back in a Gorges trade. Too late now.
Gallagher and Tinordi is an over payment. Kovalchuk got Oduya, Bergfors, Cormier and 2010 1st rounder. Kane isn't nearly the player Kovalchuk was and, even though he's Russian, not the supposed headcase that Kane is.
Therefore, I'd say, Emelin (Who is better than Oduya, IMO)+ a higher end prospect, ex: Hudon, Bozon, or Andrighetto, etc. + 1st round pick 2016, and Prust.
4 years makes a big difference in the trade market but that's the biggest named player I can think of in the past 4 or 5 years.
