Leafs could have Liligren moving up next year also Orpik gives them another Stanley Cup winner and leader to help guide the youngsters. This also frees up cap space next year.

Leafs have been bad in their zone this year and with so much (potential) offence up front we can spare some on the back end

Any trade involving Gardiner is a good trade. Not sure if Leafs would take another pending UFA in return. Maybe wanting futures if they trade Gardiner. But Lovejoy would be cheaper to re-sign and we upgrade our pick. Dubas, make this trade.

The Dumba trade is better, Nylnader is worth more then Pesce and a third
The Gardiner trade is terrible, Crouse is a younger version of Matt Martin, the leafs don’t need him

I don’t think Arizona would have any interest in that move. Don’t think minny would trade Dumba either. The pesce one is possible.
Also for that lineup, if Gardiner was to go, dermott would have his spot as 2LD. You have 2 RD together on second pair and 2 LD on 3rd pair. Ozhiganov hasn’t been able to stay in the lineup yet and shouldn’t be up on 2nd pair. I would have Dermott/ Zaitsev and then Hainsey/ Ozhiganov.

Crouse is terrible like he is absolutely garbage at hockey skill wise he stood out in the O because of his size but never got better. No way he ever Cracks the leafs lineup. Dosent even stand out in the AHL.

Crouse holds next to no value anymore unfortunately. Always thought he would. A 3rd is what it is. So to make this happen, that young Dman would have to be really good and ideally Rigjt handed. It’s just not the right fit.

Hell no lol are we better with John tavares up front? absolutely. Does he offset going from Andersen to a kid with 17 NHL games, over a 3.00 GAA and under .900 sv%? Not a chance. Anyone who has consistently watched the leafs over the last 2 seasons will tell you that even though Matthews scored 75 goals in less than 150 games, and even though he was a highlight reel almost every night, Freddy Andersen was the teams MVP almost every single game. He is more the reason for success than Matthews so far as crazy as that is, because Matthews has been amazing. We didn’t get good enough to lose him. And it’s not like a slight drop off, it’s from a proven star goalie to an unknown commodity at that level.

With Matthews, Kadri, bozak, Andersen we are top half of the league in centre depth and have great goaltending.
With Matthews Tavares Kadri sparks we would be with penguins, capitals and Oilers for best centres in the league but would be bottom 3 if not dead last goaltending.
Even Crosby and Malkin wouldn’t have 3 cups without good to great goaltending behind them.

Honestly, I say hard pass from both teams on the JVR trade,
I say run with this years lineup next year minus Boyle/ Polak/ Hunwick, and see where it takes us. Plus, I'm not sold that trading Gardiner is the right move.
From the Isles, that pick is like 12-13 overall, so that plus Hamonic is a lot. So probably no from them too.
As for the rest, I'd like Foote yes.
Boyle we don't need back, he's played well, but Freddy the Goat can take his spot.
Alsner, after seeing him in this series, is nothing too special imo. he's kind of slow, and doesn't play THAT well. If we're getting someone, I'd prefer Cody Franson for one year, or Michael Stone for two. Not Alzner for FOUR.
