Three-way trade:
VAN: Demko (UFA '26) to EDM (1M ret.)
2027 3rd to MTL
MTL: Laine (UFA '26) to VAN (2.2M ret.)
EDM: Pickard (UFA '26) to MTL
2026 2nd
2026 3rd
- VAN promotes Shilovs and dumps an injury-plagued asset, while adding much-needed scoring for the same cost of Demko's outgoing cap hit.
- EDM takes a one-year chance on improving their goaltending, while saving 1M on dumping Pickard and 1M on the Demko contract. (No one's taking Skinner)
- MTL uses cap space to facilitate these moves, adding 3 picks for taking on 3.7M in cap space.
EDM has little in tradable assets, and the cap penalties for that stupid Jack Campbell contract are worst in the next 2 seasons. There are precious few ways to add when cap space and tradable assets are scarce. It will be interesting to see what they do.
Laine, Demko and Pickard being UFAs after this season create an interesting one-year experiment.
25 Jun 2025 22:53:54
I think this is pretty solid ??.
20 Jun 2025 15:22:48
I think Dallas & St. Louis have real interest in Ekblad, is if so, they need room.
P. Broberg & T. Krug (LTIR) for B. McMann & prospect.
Blues free up $3.5 & dump $6.5 (out of house payment) while landing a very useful & cheap 20+goal player.
Leafs land a D-stud for under $5 and can move Reilly to Minny or Vancouver where he will excel.
21 Jun 2025 12:30:31
didnt st louis just offer sheet broberg from edmonton, why would they trade him away. and no thanks on krug.
22 Jun 2025 21:32:24
Broberg will be asking for $6 mil next year, Blues have Neighbors, Holloway, Broberg & Fowler all looking & deserving raises next year. Blues will have $5 mil in cap room.
Krug will get traded to a cap floor team (or a super rich team like Rangers or Leafs) . Krug is never playing again.
Blues need to make trades to find room for Ekblad or at very least, to try & keep 2 or 3 out of their 4 expiring contracts.
24 May 2025 23:03:46
Montreal has 18 million in cap space
I think if they want they could trade laine to Vancouver for a 2nd round which would clear 8.7 to make it roughly 27 million
Montreal trades with wild
Habs send 17th overall, 2nd and 3rd
To wild for Marco Rossi sign him to 6yrs 6 million
Montreal trades with rangers
Habs send 16th overall, Newhook, struble and beck or Heineman
To rangers for Alexis Lafrenière 7.4 per
Habs sign Johnathan Toews 1yr 2,5
MTL still has 15,5 million in cap space
Slavkosky Suzuki Caufield
Demidov Rossi Lafrenière
Dach Toews Gallagher
Anderson Evans flo xhejaj
25 May 2025 00:12:13
Just remember Hutson needs to be signed. And Demidov soon as well. I know cap is going up, but both are gonna command a hefty price
Id kick some tires on Kuznetsov from KHL.. I'm not a huge fan, but I'm thinking for Demidov .. maybe a 2 year 4m per..
Love to see Lafreniere in a Habs uniform, but not at expense of Heineman , Struble ect..
Whats exciting about the Habs is the depth they have with these young stars.. They need the Heinemans and Strubles to win. I think some minor tweaks are needed, but now it's time to let the boys grow into what they are.
25 May 2025 02:16:22
By the time Hutson new contract is up the cap is rumoured to be 8.5 million more so habs would have 24 million + Mathesons 5 million off, so there’s plenty of money for demidov and Hutson then the next year there’s Gallagher and Anderson off the books that’s another 12 million . Habs are in a great spot!
29 May 2025 13:53:15
I don't see the Canucks making any trade for Laine, but I could see a trade where Habs acquire 15th overall, for the 16th overall and 1 of the Habs 2nd round picks.
This would be contingent on whether Carbonneau is available at 15th.

Thoughts ?
09 May 2025 16:17:32
As Jersey, I wouldn't do that. Why give up that much quality youth for 2 years? Either wait, or let Hughes put the pressure on the Canucks to lower the asking price. So that he has a good, deep team to come to.
09 May 2025 17:05:29
memarcusjoe.
Canucks trading their best player and Captain they would want a huge haul imo.
Vancouver isn't going to give QHughes away if traded I believe.
This is something that Vancouver would want in making this type of trade, and NJ gets better immediately.
09 May 2025 17:45:27
Sure that's what Vancouver would want, but that doesn't mean that's what they will get.
If he only wants to go to one team, there isn't a lot of bargaining power.
I wouldn't do it, if he has his heart set on going to Jersey only. I'd wait until the price becomes more reasonable, but that's me, maybe Jersey management is more cavalier with their assets.
26 Apr 2025 16:28:00
Nj: Mercer, Nemec, 2025 2nd
Van: Hughes
This is probably the general base of the trade. Not sure what adds what where but Vancouver gets great NHL ready prospect to replace Hughes on the back end. A talented and young NHL forward, and a second. The salary is about 3m difference which is covered in the cap raise, or moving another peice.
26 Apr 2025 19:31:09
If I was Jersey and Hughes wants to join his brothers that badly, I'd just wait a sign him as a UFA. Why throw away so much quality youth for 2 years?
30 Apr 2025 14:02:13
That's not close for Hughes.
22 Apr 2025 14:02:34
Quinn Highes and Nils Hoglander from Canucks, to Detroit for Seeider, Nate Danielson, 25 and 26 1st round picks.
Sounds like Quinn wants a chance to play with his brothers, so Detroit makes sense to have a better chance to acquire all 3, while Seider can help fill the void on defense, Danielson is a young centre Canucks need and the 2 1sts are to get the deal done.
22 Apr 2025 16:18:59
Detroit wouldn't and shouldn't do that imo. Why pay that much for 2 years of a player when you have absolutely no idea what his real intentions are once this contract is up?
Let Vancouver sweat it out and worry about losing him for nothing or getting him extended for the next 2 years. You can always step in further down the road when the picture becomes clearer and Vancouver may be in a position to sell at a reduced price.
25 Feb 2025 15:45:39
Chicago: Jones...Vancouver: petterson.
24 Feb 2025 17:47:13
Canucks and Islanders make a blockbuster
Canucks send Petterson #40, and Quinn Hughes,
Islanders send Barzal, Dobson, Nelson(to make dollars work) and 1st round pick 2025.
Both teams need a bit of a reset and this helps check boxes for both teams.
24 Feb 2025 18:05:35
Hughes is as untouchable as it gets, but maybe there’s a fit with Dobson and Pettersson with some work?
I hold Dobson in high regard. He was great in the Memorial Cup. Seeing him at Ice Level I can honestly say I haven’t seen many big men with such an effortless stride. My prediction is that NYI will lose any Dobson trade.
24 Feb 2025 18:44:09
With how EP40 is playing coupled with his contract, I don't think many teams will be interested in giving up major assets for him.
24 Feb 2025 21:17:38
Petterson would probably get that. Hughes add another 4 1st round picks, best 2 prospects and another roster player.
27 Feb 2025 05:19:19
I wouldn't trade that alone for Pettersson. He has been playing awful and because of it has the Canucks in a position where they'd be selling so low on him in a trade.
Quinn Hughes is as untouchable as they come, only way you see him dealt is if he's in a contract year and tells the Canucks that he has no intention of resigning.
30 Jan 2025 03:56:02
I have two hypothetical trades proposals for canadiens That I think would end the rebuild
1 Montreal trades with Vancouver
MTL sends : both 2025 1st round picks , 2026 1st round pick top 5 protected, Josh Anderson and matheson
To Vancouver for Elias petterson
2 : Montreal trades with Chicago
MTL sends : mesar , engstrom, both 2025 2nd round pick
To Chicago for Seth jones (50% retained) 4.75 per
Habs next year lineup
Slavkosky Suzuki caufield
Demidov petterson laine
Newhook dach heinemen
Roy Beck. Gallagher
Defence
Hutson jones
Guhle carrier
Xehjaj Mailloux
30 Jan 2025 18:09:51
Huge overpays from MTL, and neither Pettersson nor Jones are the right targets in my humble opinion.
I doubt Jones would consider going to another rebuilding team, and asking CHI to eat half his salary for 3 more seasons after this is a tall ask.
MTL has a good thing going with their rebuild. What they've got in the system is coming together, and Demidov is looking great in the K. I'd keep the picks unless there's a truly remarkable trade value that presents itself.
30 Jan 2025 21:03:50
I agree with Chickenfoot on this.
At this point, I just want to see minor tweaks, nothing to major.
31 Jan 2025 05:53:47
Chicago might retain 2>3 million, they're not retaining half. Call back in a year or two.
04 Feb 2025 21:19:40
I agree with Chickenfoot and Sosa, keep the ship moving in the direction it is in.

26 Jan 2025 19:31:41
Vancouver loses this. I would rather Pettersson and Hoglander for Marner Kampf and Cowan. If everyone waves.
28 Jan 2025 16:33:55
I agree they lose if they have to retain. not the rest of the NHL fault that Toronto has no clue how to pay players properly in a cap world. . but yoi also don't want to give up a guy like Bowser. maybe fit someone else in and no retain.
30 Jan 2025 18:47:46
Canucks hang up and block your number.

Don't see Vancouver biting. Tough pill to swallow for them to have to pay a second pairing dman $7.5mill.
Maybe they bite if we retain on Rielly but we aren't in a place to do so. I imagine our targets are more along the lines of someone like Gourde who Seattle may retain on.
21 Jan 2025 11:42:03
VAN wants players who can play now, not prospects or picks that can’t help yet.
VAN doesn’t do this deal for Miller alone. Quantity never equals quality, especially in a Pinball deal.
22 Jan 2025 16:02:33
Chickenfoot,
Yes you are Rutherford saying what you posted.
Oh Rielly and Minton today are both NHLers not Prospects or Picks, but hey a 1st and 2nd Rounders aren't important either in a Chicken World.
23 Jan 2025 16:56:53
Why so thin-skinned Pinball? Why the insults? Why upvote yourself so often?
Your trades are pretty much universally panned, yet you always have the most upvotes? Kinda funny don’t you think? (That first sentence doesn’t make any sense btw…not sure what you’re trying to say. )
17 Jan 2025 19:07:40
Vancouver: petterson chicago: Jones, reichal, hall 50% retained, prospect Ryan Greene
18 Jan 2025 05:26:38
Id like comments by who put unbelievable. Why? Canucks get a 1st round pick? Hall at half price. Top 4 defenseman. Reichel probably
would thrive in Vancouver Petterson signed forever. Same as Jones. Id just like some feedback.
18 Jan 2025 05:57:52
Retain Jones at 50% and it’s closer but they already made that mistake with OEL. Hall at 50% is worth like a 4th.
18 Jan 2025 20:11:27
Hmm, I've read hall 50% is worth a 2nd, without a 3rd or 4th. Jones is a top pairing and it's not like petterson is on a great deal, hes 2 million more than jones. Vancouver wants a top 4 de and Jones can fill that next 5 years for sure. He's a bit overpaid but is petterson playing like he worth 11.5?
16 Jan 2025 18:16:40
Chi: Jones, Vancouver Jt Miller.
30 Jan 2025 18:49:22
No chance by Van. Miller can still play at an elite level. PASS!
15 Jan 2025 08:16:49
What do you think about this one?
BOS:
Coyle, Charlie - $5,250,000
Carlo, Brandon - $4,100,000
Poitras, Matthew - $870,000
2025 1st Round Pick - without protection
VAN:
Pettersson, Elias - $11,600,000
2025 4th Round Pick
Boston getting true 1st center and Vancouver in exchange solid 2nd pair RHD + 2nd RH center. Plus promising young kid. He showed some promise last season. Then BOS also add 1st round pick. I think this helps both sides.
15 Jan 2025 16:20:35
not bad, but I wonder if Patterson fits the Boston player mold.
15 Jan 2025 18:21:23
Decent place holder/ bandages in Coyle and Carlo. But unless VAN thinks Poitras is going to be a stud then they easily pass on this.
15 Jan 2025 19:41:37
Yeah no chance from Vancouver.
16 Jan 2025 02:31:08
I think it seems pretty fair. I could see this.
16 Jan 2025 10:30:43
vbbbvvbb, Ebsolutely
Why no chance from VAN?
VAN is looking for proven def - Brandon Carlo is capable of playing in TOP 4 + is RHD, that is very valuable in present
In some news is also said that they want in return center also - Charlie Coyle is capable of playing as 2nd C for them + RH too (again +)
BOS also adds 1st rounder and promising young player to play in their top 9, can turn into top 6 in near future.
I think that this is kinda good deal, ofc in term of value. There is also question, if VAN consider these players as possible options. Who knows.
16 Jan 2025 13:11:49
Elias Pettersson is elite and requires at minimum a high upside prospect. Poitras has almost zero offensive upside, Carlo is a meh 4th D and Coyle is a good 3rd liner. Elias for Noah Dobson is a speculative swap. This would be awful for Vancouver.
16 Jan 2025 18:21:00
This is quantity over quality. Coyle peaked at a low end 2nd line center but is actually an expensive 3rd line center. Carlo is a mid to low end top 4.
Agree Petterson is elite so they’d need at least a piece that is high high end coming back.
17 Jan 2025 13:10:59
And who is that #2C? Certainly not Coyle. If he was, Boston wouldn't let him go.
17 Jan 2025 21:19:43
If you're going to try screwing the Bruins, at least buy them dinner first.
23 Jan 2025 18:17:17
Seabass where would you put Carlo on the Bruins depth chart? And where would you have him next season?

14 Jan 2025 16:14:58
IF anyone really upvoted this Pinball post, can you post your reply here? It's pretty obvious it's Pinball upvoting Pinball.
- Puts the leafs over the cap.
- If VCR trades Miller, they'll get a better return than this, and they won't have to include Soucy and 5th, nor will they have to take on Ryan Reaves' contract for this year or next.
Get real Pinball.
14 Jan 2025 18:01:49
Chickenfoot
I don't upvote my posts.
Number 2 if you breakdown the proposal it's Rielly and a 2nd Rounder for Miller, and Minton and Reaves for Soucy and a 5th Rounder which imo is about right.
As for being over the cap it won't be by a lot and another move of course would have to happen.
15 Jan 2025 03:38:59
HAHA who's going to quarter back the top power play for toronto? Jake McCabe? OEL?
I think the leafs would decline. It's a no Brainerd Van declines.
15 Jan 2025 14:11:33
need to add to take Reaves. Also, Toronto needs better defense. Miller plays good 2 way but you need focused help on that blue line.
