New York Islanders Rumours
Use our rumours form to send us nhl trade rumors.
17 May 2025 15:49:33
NY Islanders trade to Chicago Noah Dobson, Matt Maggio, 2026 1st round pick (their own ) in return they get Chicago 3rd overall 2025 draft
17 May 2025 16:03:51
Highly overvaluing 3OA.
17 May 2025 22:01:00
they would Schaefer 1st and Hagens 3rd. Maggio is not going to be an NHL regular, their 2026 first round pick should 15th-20th. With Schaefer. Hagens, Ritchie and Eiserman a good group of prospects.
20 May 2025 13:22:50
I agree with Memarcusjoe.
Trading Dobson, in my humble opinion, would be a foolish decision.
20 May 2025 22:11:10
he's soft defensively, won' be worth the salary that he will demand.
16 May 2025 01:23:49
Montreal trades with ny islanders
Montreal trades: 16th ,17th overall, Mailloux,Josh Roy, Owen beck , laine (if it takes more I’m listening if I’m Hugues)
To islanders for : horvat and Dobson (signs at same cap as Caufield)
This still leaves habs with cash to go sniff around rangers about panarin ( 1yr , 11.6) or Lafrenière (7yrs , 7.4)
For: Newhook , engstrom ++
Slavkosky Suzuki Caufield
Demidov horvat Lafreniere or panarin
Gallagher dach Anderson
Heinemen evans Flo xehjaj
Hutson Dobson
Guhle Carrier
Xehjaj Matheson
16 May 2025 03:43:18
The Islanders would do better trading each guy separately. The only really desirable pieces are the two picks and you're trying to dump Laine on them as well.
I can't see the Islanders having any interest at all in that.
16 May 2025 14:02:15
Full respect to Horvat and Dobson, but there’s other options that won’t require so many assets.
22 May 2025 13:49:21
Not sure what the Habs cap situation is looking like, but Ekbald would be a great add for them on the backend. These playoffs he's really come into his own. Reminds me of Pietro as of late. Gives them the option to deal less assets to go after a 2nd line center ?♂️.
15 May 2025 22:12:43
Sharks trade 2nd overall and Quentin Musty to NYI for 1st overall and 3rd rounder.
SJ gets a top dman which they need
The Isles get their pick of Misa or Hagens plus another good prospect in Musty.
12 May 2025 03:14:39
Two trades that would solidify end of habs rebuild
1- mtl trades with rangers
MTL sends : Mailloux, 16th overall and Adam engstrom
To rangers for: Alexis Lafrenière ( 6foot2, 200 pounds) 23 yr old 6 yrs left at 7.4 per
2- mtl trades with ny islanders
MTL sends 17th overall Joshua Roy and a second round
To islanders for Bo horvat (6foot1 215 pounds) 30 yr old 6yr left at 8.5 per
Lines
Slavkovsky Suzuki Caufield
Lafrenière Horvat Demidov
Newhook Dach laine
Anderson Evans Gallagher
Habs could try and trade for pending free agent Rasmus Anderson
MTL sends : heinemen, second round, struble
To Flames for Anderson
Def
Anderson Hutson
Carrier Guhle
Xhejaj matheson.
12 May 2025 16:14:07
- seems like a huge overpay for Lafrenière, who took a big step back this season.
- Horvat is a great target for MTL, but the Isles would likely want a better prospect than Joshua Roy, who I just don’t see developing into an every-day NHL player.
- Andersson is very good, but MTL would be better off graduating Mailloux or Reinbacher. If neither is ready, a trade for someone with more term than one year would undoubtedly be favoured.
12 May 2025 17:40:44
I'm thinking for Horvat the Habs would probably have to offer up Micheal Hage , which I wouldnt be comfortable doing, however to get these type of players, ya need to give up something as well.
Id like to see Lafrenier be added, however, I don't know what that looks like atm..
Have the management given up on Dach as the 2nd line guy?? I'm torn on this. I dont think I'm quite ready yet. However his injury history is obviously worrisome..
14 May 2025 14:38:14
I haven’t given up on Dach yet . Tage Thompson is a hopeful comparison, he started coming into his own at age 24, that’s where Dach is now, but I think for this year he’s better suited for the 3c role.
10 May 2025 18:05:41
Habs- reinbacher-struble-roy-kapanen-17th overall pick and 41th overall pick- laine cap
Nyi- dobson-horvat
Breakdown
Dobson 4 reinbacher- 1st- kapanen
Horvat 4 laine- struble-roy- 2nd pick
Thought?
10 May 2025 23:37:52
Decent offer for Dobson and Terrible offer for Horvat.
06 May 2025 23:04:44
Anaheim: zegras, 2025 1st (10 ova), 2026 2nd
Nyi: 2025 #1ova
I think hlthis deal is beneficial for both teams. Nyi are in limbo, they have great peices but missed the playoffs after a down season. They get more offensive help for right now with 2 peices for future building.
Anaheim is right at that cusp of being a playoff team. Adding a long term stud on defense will compliment their developing team for years to come.
22 May 2025 12:35:36
Lol my coffee just came out my nose! Hahaha.
03 May 2025 20:31:24
Islanders Trade
Mayfield
Leafs Trade
NRobertson
Kampf*
Benoit
*Kampf would have to waive his NTC if The Islanders are not on his list.
Mayfield gives Toronto another CTanev Carlo type RHanded Defenceman which Treliving is always looking for.
Islanders at a point to start making changes and yes Kampf has to be part of this type of proposal, but for the future this is the type of smaller deals I see them doing.
Thoughts ?
05 May 2025 16:43:16
Benoit has been playing lights out these playoffs and is signed to a cheap deal. There is zero reason to deal him at all. Not one.
16 Mar 2025 21:21:38
Buffalo- Bowen Byram, Jack Quinn, 2nd 2025 and 2nd 2026
Islanders- Noah Dobson
It sounds like there is a good chance Dobson is moved and Buffalo has the best prospect pool in league so they can afford to get it done. Byram takes over top PP and Quinn complements Horvat and Barzal on top line and PP aswell
Dahlin-Dobson becomes top PP in NHL not to mention Dobson is a proven winner with a WJC and 2 memorial cups under his belt.
17 Mar 2025 00:04:38
That's an aggressive offer that Buffalo would be offering. Interesting idea for sure.
17 Mar 2025 09:40:32
thats alot for Dobson.
20 Mar 2025 20:31:47
Definitely could be good trade partners. Peterka possibly an option in there too?
21 Mar 2025 21:27:17
I have not heard anything regarding Peterka being available but for Dobson I’m sure he would be.
14 Mar 2025 14:36:55
Montreal:
Barzal 9.5 mil
Dobson RFA (signs at 8x8)
Islanders:
Dach (3.3625)
Malloux
Dobes
Roy
2025 1st
2025 1st
2026 2nd conditional (turns into a 2026 1st) if Dobson signs (currently RFA)
Would work from a cap perspective
Slafkofsky-Suzuki-caulfield
Demidov-barzal-laine
Matheson-Dobson
Hutson-carrier.
14 Mar 2025 17:06:05
Decent value, but I think the Islanders would want more of a hockey trade with young roster players as opposed to an all futures deal.
14 Mar 2025 17:06:49
You also cannot make picks conditional on a player signing anymore.
14 Mar 2025 20:43:03
I wouldnt do this. Barzal seems to be injured alot. Would like to see a little more toughness and grit at the 2nd line center.
There was some talk at the deadline that Byfield may be available, id kick tires on what that might look like.
14 Mar 2025 23:59:38
I’d rather Sam Bennett (long term) or Matt Duchene (short term 1-2 years) as free agents than barzal but definitely go after Dobson
Habs offer Mailloux , Roy , 2025 1st round , 2nd round and 3rd round
For Dobson
Then habs still have a 2025 1st round, 2nd round, and two 3rd round picks left to use or trade
15 Mar 2025 05:09:45
I think Bennett is locked back up with the Panthers. but ya, he's the kind of guy Habs could use.
15 Mar 2025 18:17:34
- Huge overpay by the Habs.
- Habs already have a 2C who can’t stay healthy, and nor can Barzal.
- if the Habs shop for a 2C, preference will be given to a lefty.
15 Mar 2025 23:58:18
I see Bennett still is available, hmm. Would like him.
16 Mar 2025 03:05:51
Barzal is not a centre…. he has primarily played RW his whole career but takes Faceoffs occasionally like William Nylander.
16 Mar 2025 11:16:03
@Sosahabs24! With Byfields play in the second half i doubt they look to move him. Kopitar isn't getting any younger and Byfield looks to be taking the steps necessary to take that 1C spot over when Kopitar retires or regresses.
Bennett is an intriguing option as well. A lot of teams are going to be in on him if he hits the market. Won't be surprised if the Panthers are able to get him signed for 8 yrs though at a decent cap hit.
If Duchene is available I'd be going after him. He's a nice stop gap center that can fill that hole until a younger guy like Hage is ready or if the plan is to convert Demidov to center then you still have to luxury of Duchene being able to play the wing.
Dobson would be a good add, I'd kick tires on Fabber as well. He's a had a down year, maybe Guerin would move him gor the right price. Clarke is another option as well a little more NHL ready then some of the RHD in the Habs system and it sounded like he was available at the deadline.
16 Mar 2025 16:05:55
Duchene might work as we wait for Hage to hopefully become an NHLer
This might be controversial, and I'm not sure if he's under KHL contract, but. maybe ( not even sure I like the idea) Kuznetsov?
04 Mar 2025 23:51:41
Islanders Trade
Nelson*
Palmieri*
Leafs Trade
Domi
NRobertson
2nd Round Pick 2025
1st Round Pick 2026
*Islanders retain 50% of both Nelson and Palmieri's expiring contracts.
Leafs solidify the third line adding Nelson and Palmieri.
Islanders get something for the now and future for 2 expiring contracts
So a good trade for them as well.
05 Mar 2025 12:42:11
They'll get a better return for both players in separate trades.
Oh, by the way since you didn't bother to look. According to puckpedia, Toronto has $101,562 in deadline day cap space as of March 5.
So I'm not sure how you thought they can fit both Nelson and Palmieri under the salary cap even if they'd make $5.5m combined with 50% retention.
But at least you thought this was a good trade for both teams, and that's what matters most at the end of the day.
05 Mar 2025 13:50:17
- to add to what DrwDave said, Nelson and Palmieri are productive players who will be highly sought this trade deadline. They’ll bring a good haul back to the island.
- if you take away Palmieri, the value looks right for Nelson.
- most hockey folks think Treliving will look for modest/ affordable depth adds. This makes a lot of sense to me.
- a lot of cap space opens up next year for the leafs. They have the opportunity to build a balanced roster by reallocating their cap space. A top-heavy roster bind that Dubas muddled his way into obviously didn’t translate into playoff success.
- Tre will give his team a tweak or two, keeping his picks and prospects as much as possible. He seems to appreciate the need to have both picks and prospects. Looks like the cycle of losing key pieces due to cap mismanagement ends next season. My leaf fan buddies have waited a looooong time for this, and I hope they end up with something to cheer about.
05 Mar 2025 16:29:33
DrwDave
Nelson and Palmieri at 5,500.000
Domi and NRobertson 4,625.000
5,500.000 - 4,625.000 = 875.000
So yes they can fit it in.
04 Mar 2025 02:01:04
Florida Panthers will look for a way to use their cap space with Matthew Tkachuk ruled out with a groin injury until at least the playoffs.
NY Islanders:
Brock Nelson
Florida Panthers:
2027 1st round pick
2025 conditional 4th round pick (becomes a 2025 2nd round pick if Florida wins the Stanley cup).
With Tkachuk on LTIR, Forida has the cap space to bring in Nelson without any salary retention. Although this means they potentally wont have any picks in the first 3 rounds for the next 2 years, the chance that this team can win back to back cups is worth the risk.
04 Mar 2025 03:01:30
Becomes a 2026 2nd round pick**.
05 Mar 2025 10:24:57
This seems like a realistic deadline haul for Nelson. ?.
26 Feb 2025 01:10:32
NYI:
- Brock Nelson
WPG:
- 1st ('25)
- 3rd ('26)
26 Feb 2025 03:20:06
I would do that, but I don't think Nelson waives for Winnipeg.
26 Feb 2025 14:38:02
I think he waives for Winnipeg. Ideal spot to land for a strong playoff push this year.
26 Feb 2025 15:56:27
MG69, I'd sure like it if Nelson would waive and this was the acquisition price, I'd be all for it.
27 Feb 2025 05:10:42
@memarcusjoe it will be interesting to see what the market value is on some of the players this year. I do think Nelson would be strictly a rental for the Jets, maybe Helly convinces him to resign though.
27 Feb 2025 14:16:41
Yeah, I agree. I think Nelson would be purely a rental for this playoff run.
24 Feb 2025 17:47:13
Canucks and Islanders make a blockbuster
Canucks send Petterson #40, and Quinn Hughes,
Islanders send Barzal, Dobson, Nelson(to make dollars work) and 1st round pick 2025.
Both teams need a bit of a reset and this helps check boxes for both teams.
24 Feb 2025 18:05:35
Hughes is as untouchable as it gets, but maybe there’s a fit with Dobson and Pettersson with some work?
I hold Dobson in high regard. He was great in the Memorial Cup. Seeing him at Ice Level I can honestly say I haven’t seen many big men with such an effortless stride. My prediction is that NYI will lose any Dobson trade.
24 Feb 2025 18:44:09
With how EP40 is playing coupled with his contract, I don't think many teams will be interested in giving up major assets for him.
24 Feb 2025 21:17:38
Petterson would probably get that. Hughes add another 4 1st round picks, best 2 prospects and another roster player.
27 Feb 2025 05:19:19
I wouldn't trade that alone for Pettersson. He has been playing awful and because of it has the Canucks in a position where they'd be selling so low on him in a trade.
Quinn Hughes is as untouchable as they come, only way you see him dealt is if he's in a contract year and tells the Canucks that he has no intention of resigning.
14 Feb 2025 13:05:34
Islanders Trade
Nelson*
Palmieri*
Leafs Trade
Domi
NRobertson
Holmberg
2nd Round Pick 2025
*NYIs retain 50% of both Nelson and Palmieri's expiring contracts.
Domi would have to waive his NTC if The Islanders are not on his list.
Thoughts ?
14 Feb 2025 15:18:58
Would assume NYI would prefer Minten instead of the 2nd rounder like you previously posted plus a little incentive for eating half of each contract.
14 Feb 2025 16:23:34
NYI would not be interested in that sad package of not very good Leaf players. The Isles will be better off trading the 2 of them individually.
13 Feb 2025 00:38:48
Trade idea for Montreal … islanders willing to trade Dobson for scoring,
MTL sends laine (33% retained ) Mailloux , 2 2025 2nd round picks
To islanders for Dobson
11 Feb 2025 14:30:48
Islanders Trade
Nelson*
Palmieri*
Leafs Trade
Domi
NRobertson
Holmberg
Minton (AHL)
*Islanders retain 50% of both Nelson and Palmieri's expiring contract.
Domi would have to waive any NTC if The Islanders are on his list to complete the transaction.
Thoughts ?
11 Feb 2025 17:58:44
That is a very proLeaf one sided trade. Your back Pinball.
11 Feb 2025 18:44:55
islandjet1
Nelson and Palmieri are UFAs after this season, Islanders have signed players coming back in my proposal besides NRobertson as a RFA.
One sided only for this year not after this season, this is all fact and true.
11 Feb 2025 18:59:00
Why does the team retaining money get nothing for it?
11 Feb 2025 20:18:39
if the islanders trade these players they are probably going to want young players and draft capital in return, only player i think they would want in that deal is minton. Robertson has little value and domi and holmberg don't have much either. I think they would get a better offer from another team.
12 Feb 2025 03:35:04
Why does NYI do this? Are they leaf fans too?
Of course not. Another one-sided leaf trade that ignores what another team would actually be looking for.
12 Feb 2025 13:44:39
That is a well thought out trade proposal, please supply more of these great Leafs trades.
14 Feb 2025 21:38:04
Robertson has potential but keep in mind earlier this year the Isles lost Wahlstrom to waivers, probably similar values.
20 Dec 2024 00:24:10
Montreal trades with ny islanders
Mtl sends xhejaj and Calgary 1st round
To islanders for
Noah Dobson
With more trades from habs coming
D core would look like this
Dobson Hutson
Carrier guhle
Mailloux struble or engstrom
With reinbacher taking carriers spot in 2yrs
20 Dec 2024 02:33:52
Dobson isn't going anywhere. He's the new generation of dmen. Montreal would have to add another top peice.
20 Dec 2024 05:04:42
NYI hang up. Dobson is as close to untouchable as it gets.
20 Dec 2024 18:17:15
Dobson would be nice, but it would take alot more than that to get him. Xhekai is becoming more than just a tough guy, so I'm also happy to keep him. I see him getting an A on his jersey in a couple seasons. He's a glue guy.
21 Jul 2024 16:06:29
Read an article about possible trade scenarios of McGoarty.
One was
WPG
McGoarty
PHI
Farabee
Laughton.
This trade in my opinion doesn't really do much for WPG. With Farabee then it really forces an Ehlers trade. Laughton is not a great 2C. But I guess on a defensive team would work.
Second was
WPG
McGoarty
NYI
Romanov
Holmstrom.
This trade gives top 4D but left handed.
But he can be put on the Right side. He is better than Pionk. Holmstrom IDK anything about him except that he is a winger.
Third was
WPG
McGoarty
CLB
Kent Johnson
Johnson has offensive side and can play all three forward positions. Then possibly trade for a top 4D.
Other teams were BOS, MINN, CAR,
Personally I like to see guy go play for Tortilla! Give him a wake up call!
21 Jul 2024 17:20:42
Lol these are awful for every team not named Winnipeg.
21 Jul 2024 18:48:40
Yeah those are pretty bad scenarios done by beat writers that don't know anything about Winnipeg's needs.
CLB likely isn't trading Johnson.
The other two are for players that do nothing for Winnipeg.
It's not very often that a team targets players they don't need in trades.
21 Jul 2024 21:56:56
That’s what I thought after reading. These ppl writing about WPG McGoarty trade scenarios have not paid attention to WPG needs. 2C & top4 potential Right handed D.
I also Read about WPG and CAL including Kadri and prospects. Which makes absolutely no sense. Yes it gives WPG a 2C. But aged!
Another one was a trade involving Marner. Which I still think is a joke.
Personally I don’t see McGoarty trades to either at trade deadline or after the next season.
And Ehlers has rumours of staying in WPG.
21 Jul 2024 23:32:30
Totally agree. The earliest McGroarty moves now is the TDL unless someone blows Chevy away before then. Beat writers don't put a lot of thought into stuff. They just go, "well this team wants to trade this guy and that team wants to trade that guy, let's trade 'em for each other! " No thought of cap space or team needs at all.
Ehlers most likely stays a Jet. Scheifele and Helly didn't sign until late in the off season last year either.
07 Jul 2024 00:48:21
Just read an article about WPG Ehlers.
That 2 main teams showing interest.
Carolina and NYI.
Just talked about trade with NYI
WPG
Ehlers
NYI
Pageau
Prospect
Draft pick.
If this is the case I would go after
Dufour
Or
Eiserman
Possibly Holmstrom.
Carolina trade would be tough.
WPG
Ehlers
CAR
Necas.
I don't think would work. Be nice but it's a no.
WPG would love Jarvis. But Carolina is not trading him.
Maybe Ehlers and McGoarty for Jarvis and Drury. But IDK.
07 Jul 2024 02:37:29
Pageau obviously doesn't worth since he's a cap dump and wouldn't waive for Winnipeg anyways.
They're not trading Eiserman and Dufour and Holmstrom are throw in, low value pieces that don't give Winnipeg anything they need.
Carolina isn't trading Jarvis and Necas is a lateral move basically for a player with only 2 years to UFA that will be more expensive than Ehlers next year.
07 Jul 2024 03:28:45
Personally I didn’t like the Pageau trade. Exactly what you said. Salary dump case scenario. Pageau is good, mostly defensive, which Jets already have Lowry and Namestnikov.
The Jets needs are a 2C and more help on defence. Preferably top 4D and RD.
07 Jul 2024 04:10:19
Agree. The only piece from the Islanders that makes sense is Pulock and I don't see that happening.
08 Jul 2024 16:01:26
gotta love these guys that presume a player won't waive a no trade. what is the basis of your argument? is it because you don't like Winnipeg?
