SJ: Laine

MTL: 5th (2028 - Conditional)


- SJ adds 20-30 Goals to their lineup for a chance to see if Laine is worth re-signing next summer.

- Habs clear 8.7M in cap space to get under the cap and to facilitate their next move.

- the conditions for the pick are set at something unlikely to happen, like a 50G season, so that SJ basically gets the asset for nothing other than the cap hit, which they need to reach the floor regardless.

- MTL can't put Laine & Dach on the same line for defensive reasons, and this opens another top-6 roster slot for an expected 2C that shoots left.

- money is similar, but MTL adds the 2nd, 4th & prospect for the extra year of term on McCann's deal, and the fact that Centers currently have a higher acquisition cost.)

- McCann currently plays LW & C, but is a 3C on SEA behind Beniers & Stephenson, and they are currently giving 3C reps to Shane Wright.) SEA turns some of that C-depth into 4 pieces.)

Dunn is not the answer there. Would sooner pursue Erik Karlsson with retention. To be honest Rielly and Cowan + for Erik Karlsson and Rust or Rakell make a ton of sense for both teams.

Disagree on Karlsson. 10 million for him for two more years is way to much. Dunn is much younger and makes a reasonable amount of money in comparison. Also like the thought of Tolvanen as a 3rd line guy. Solid defensively and can also put the Puck in the net.

Disagree again. Maccelli will be given the opportunity on the first line. He is known as a good set up man, just what Matthews and Knies need. His 1st 2 seasons were pretty good on a bad team, and last year he battled injuries according to reports.

I really liked bolduc but getting a young top 4 RHD to replace an aging faulk was a need. We have Kyrou, Buch, Holloway, Snuggerud, Neighbors, Dvorsky and now Carbenou who just dazzeled in camp on the wings. Bolduc was traded from a strength for a weakness. PM compares Malli to a you bouchard. so tell me if that happens is it worth it.

Meh I'm not a big Bouchard guy. I personally see Mailloux looking like the Florida Panthers version of Seth Jones if he hits his peak. Tbh that wouldn't be too bad for the Blues. Bolduc is coming off a pretty successful back half of the season so immediate winners I see being the Habs. If everyone develops and progresses as they should it will probably be a fairly even across the board trade.

So this Marner thing is now a soap opera, possible tampering charges etc. Right now Vegas has 5,600.000 in cap space and will have to clear cap to even sign Marner, so if that's the case I have a trade proposal to fix it all.

The leafs have threatened to put tampering charges against Vegas if he signs with them in offseason. It sounds like if a sign and trade isn’t made Vegas if he does end up signing him as a FA they will lose their 1st round pick. Not sure if it disappears like what happened with New Jersey with the Kovy situation or if it goes to leafs.

From what I've read Toronto could end up with the draft picks or cash. It would also void the contract. I imagine Trev is asking for Roy and Barbashev in a sign and trade plus a pick of some sort. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. Based on what Friedman said the league is waiting to make an example out of someone for tampering so we'll see what happens.

If Vegas has talked to marner, marner would be fined 1 mil. Team could be 5mil in fines. I hope the nhl says you forfeit all of next years picks + next 1st. They do it every year.

It's a hard thing to prove. A lot of the blame would fall on Mitch's agent. I've seen the same thing @Shootsmcgee, potentially even the picks going to the offended team. There's definitely some sour grapes action going on here from the Leafs side, but I feel like this would happen with any team who is losing a top player. I think the grey area is that technically Vegas still needs permission to be negotiating a contract with Marner's agent and I don't think that's happened. I could be wrong on some of that as I didn't dive too deep into it.

Treliving is a very good NHL GM, and Dubas is not. Congrats to leaf fans on the great negotiations on Tavares and Knies. Dubas would have spent much more.
