Tor: knies

LA: Byfield

Yes I know knies is a great player. But so is Byfield, leafs need a long term center behind Matthews.

I’d take Byfield here.

Montréal has to call Florida and acquire Lundell!! Adding him would catapult habs into contention for years to come! That’s exactly what Hugo said they’d do!
MTL offers : matheson 50% retained, Logan Mailloux, 2nd round and 3rd
To panthers for : Lundell
Or : matheson 50% retained or Mailloux and top 5 protected 2026 1st round
For lundell
Habs would then trade price to sharks
This leaves habs with plenty of money to resign Hutson and demidov to long term extensions
2026 lineup
Slavkosky Suzuki caufield
Demidov lundell Laine
Newhook dach Gallagher
Anderson evans Florian or ufa corey Perry
Dcore of
Hutson reinbacher
Guhle Dobson
Xehjaj carrier

I don’t see FLA giving up a piece of their present two-time Cup winning team for Matheson + futures.

When you’re at the top you’re not thinking about building, you’re thinking about staying where you’re at.

FLA will go hard at repeating and they have an excellent shot at achieving something special IMHO.

- Kuznetsov has announced his intention to return to the NHL, and has been in contact with several teams apparently.

- Given the dearth of available 2C, and the number of teams looking for one, I say MTL sign him to a cheap 1-year deal for 1 season at 2M.

- He centered Demidov last year in the KHL at a point a game pace, and given that he obviously speaks Russian, he could help break the kid into NHL life.

- Kuznetsov even shoots left...which is on the Habs' shopping list for a 2C.

- If he can stay off the Columbian nose candy, Kuznetsov might be a great placeholder move for the Habs to get them through this season.

I imagine that's where he lands. As a Leafs fan, I'm not happy seeing the Habs making some solid moves. Dobson addition is huge. Kuz could pay dividends as well if he stays healthy, mentally and physically. If anything he helps Demidov transition to North America which is a huge plus as well.

I have said all along I still believe Marner resigns with The Leafs, but if for arguments sakes he isn't and Vegas is the team that plans on signing him this is my proposal.

Toronto Trades
Marner
McMann

Vegas Trades
Hertl

Before anyone says but Vegas can sign him after July 1 for nothing, this is about an 8 year contract over a 7 year contract, The AAV would be less for Vegas, plus Vegas will have to clear cap space to fit Marner in that's why Hertl goes to Toronto.
I truly believe when it's all said and done Marner resigns, but if he doesn't as promised by Chickenfoot I will be off this site until September.

Thoughts ?

- I suppose it's possible that VGK might value an extra year enough to trade him before the deadline, but I can't see that being a "must" for them.

- Centers are tough to find this off-season, so if Hertl is moved, they could get a good return for him. He has good size, and is coming off a 32 goal/ 61 point season.

- if VGK really does value the 8th year for Marner, it takes mid-level pick.

- if the leafs want Hertl, it's going to take a package to get it, likely in picks or prospects, to help VGK clear cap space, which is the only reason they'd trade Hertl.

- the leafs are very low on both picks and prospects, and are more likely to replace departing players in Free Agency with the cap money that will be freed up from the departure of Marner. and possibly Tavares? (I still think Tavares re-signs, but is forced into a hometown discount well below what he could get if he's willing to put his new home on the market. )

- PINBALL: Marner was photographed househunting in Vegas this week, so it looks like you'll be using a burner profile till September 1st eh? (Just kidding. )

If Vegas is high on Marner and they value that additional year. I imagine a sign and trade is done and the Leafs will get a nice package in return. End of an era in TO and I'm looking forward to what Trev has planned for this team as we lose one of our regular season high end performers. The Tavares signing was a welcomed surprise to see.

Dobson (8x10m)

Vs

Reinbacher
17th overall 2025
Beck or kapanen (might take Hage)

---------------

Hertl

Vs

Dach or Newhook
16th overall 2025

- The first trade proposal looks realistic. (Painful, but realistic. )

- For the second trade, VGK is looking to clear salary, so I'm guessing they'd prefer picks or prospects in a potential Hertl trade if it were to materialize. (VGK would only clear 5.23M if Newhook were included, or 4.78M on a Dach deal.

Turns out that the Price for Dobson was not painful!

Hopefully, and I agree with you, habs can get hertl for 2nd Pick 2025 PIT+ 2nd habs + beck!

VGK: Hertl (pending waiving his limited NTC)

MTL: 2025 1st (17th overall)
2025 2nd (MTL's pick, not the PIT pick)
Joshua Roy (2026 RFA)
Jayden Struble (RFA/LD)

- Vegas is looking to clear space to sign Marner.

- MTL needs a left shot 2C

- MTL can replace Roy & Struble with picks if VGK prefers the cap space.

Its not to bad. I know I'll get flack for this, but I still haven't given up on Dach as that guy.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Jun 2025 10:18:12
Dach is too young to give up on, and though I’d give him some time at C, he’s probably a 3C or a second line winger.

If it were me, he’d get this last year if his current contract to prove whether he is capable of staying healthy, and whether he is a C or a winger. He’d have a short leash if it were up to me.

Three-way trade:

VAN: Demko (UFA '26) to EDM (1M ret.)
2027 3rd to MTL

MTL: Laine (UFA '26) to VAN (2.2M ret.)

EDM: Pickard (UFA '26) to MTL
2026 2nd
2026 3rd

- VAN promotes Shilovs and dumps an injury-plagued asset, while adding much-needed scoring for the same cost of Demko's outgoing cap hit.

- EDM takes a one-year chance on improving their goaltending, while saving 1M on dumping Pickard and 1M on the Demko contract. (No one's taking Skinner)

- MTL uses cap space to facilitate these moves, adding 3 picks for taking on 3.7M in cap space.

EDM has little in tradable assets, and the cap penalties for that stupid Jack Campbell contract are worst in the next 2 seasons. There are precious few ways to add when cap space and tradable assets are scarce. It will be interesting to see what they do.

Laine, Demko and Pickard being UFAs after this season create an interesting one-year experiment.

Leafs having a starter in Woll and oilers need to show mcdavid they are serious about winning. He's going to walk otherwise. Also most staring goalies don't make 2.5 mil a year and are top 3 in league stats.

24 Jun 2025 02:20:21
Goalies are too unpredictable to trade that much for. Stolarz value is probably closer to a 2nd.
